Partnerships

PNNL is a leader within the technical community for analytics. The Northwest Institute for Advanced Computing is just one example of PNNL’s leadership in visual analytics and high performance computing. Insitutional partnerships and joint appointments serve to create diversity in both approaches and resources—enabling us to continue to expand the fronteirs of analytics.

Northwest Institute for Advanced Computing

Founded jointly by PNNL and the University of Washington in 2013, the Northwest Institute for Advanced Computing (NIAC) is both a physical and “virtual” collaborative center designed to maximize the impact of computing on transformative discoveries that fuel scientific and societal progress.

More

NIAC serves as a center of excellence and collaboration, where research partners from diverse academic and industry organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest region and the world bring their collective expertise with advanced computing system technologies, data analysis techniques, and domain science to bear on some of society’s biggest problems.

From its physical hub at UW, NIAC also will train and empower future generations of researchers who understand advanced computing technologies and, most importantly, can collaborate with colleagues in a range of fields to take full advantage of the capabilities provided by these technologies.

Joint Appointments

The Joint Appointment Program is one means of furthering a strategic relationship between PNNL and another institution. Joint appointments are used to enhance the ability of both institutions to achieve common research and education missions.

A joint appointment is strategic in nature to both institutions and is generally a long-term relationship.
